Counterpart is a new monthly YouTube series about underreported crises and the people living through them. Each episode connects you with ordinary people who are living through a crisis that the mainstream media has ignored.
It also connects you with local journalists on the ground – those that speak the language, know the customs, and get the access – but rarely get the credit or the platform they deserve.
The first episode on Western Sahara will launch in August.

Hosted by Maxine Betteridge-Moes
Maxine is a Canadian freelance multimedia journalist and editor based in London, UK. She reports on human rights, global justice and underreported crises for outlets including The New Humanitarian, Mongabay, Al Jazeera, The New Arab and more.
She was previously the digital editor at New Internationalist magazine, where she hosted and produced The World Unspun podcast. She is currently the digital editor at Translator magazine.
She holds a Bachelor's in Journalism from Carleton University and an MA Media in Development from SOAS, University of London.
She has lived and worked in Malaysia, Ghana, Nepal and the UK.
